Kadet Reading #3

--> Section 3 How to Create Form talks about different ways of coming up with new ideas.  Sprinting is where you set a certain time limit and then come up with as many variations as possible within the parameters. You could also using alternative grids that don’t follow the standard grids with straight lines. I really enjoyed the picture on page 123 with the image of the guy in a white button down with a red box over his eyes. It reminds me of some of the images I’ve seen on tumblr. When I was creating variations of the Spectrum logo, my friend inspired me to do something similar to the image on page 123.

I really like this idea because as someone once said “eyes are the gateway to the soul” so when they are covered, it can send many messages. A knit of parts is where you create an image and then build off of it. You create patterns and then combine the elements together to make a small scene of related elements.  I think I did that for one of my worst job projects unintentionally. You can also mock up a design and then apply it to an actual product. For example, you can create a product design label in Photoshop, and then print it and wrap it around the physical item. The book also talks about different variations of regurgitating ideas such as physical thinking. Physical thinking is where you draw something and then make connections from that drawing. Then you can build on that idea by photographing your drawings and seeing what the elements can say individually. From there you can conceptualize and refine your ideas to try and solidify concrete ideas. Today, while I was taking notes/doodling in my morning class, I drew a fish and then wrote the letter V. I noticed that the V could actually be the fin of the letter V. Then I had an idea that that could be a logo for something. Just from taking notes, I found how I could create form between two images or ideas.
