Elizabeth Jeffeson: reading 1

I enjoyed doing the reading in this book for homework because it helped me learn how to think about things in a new ways. One thing I have always struggled with in past graphic design classis was coming up with ideas for class projects. In the past I usually just tried to sit, think and just hope that a good idea would eventually come to me. Deciding on a good idea was a long and difficult process that sometimes took a lot of time because I am so indecisive, but now I think I have the necessary tools to quickly come up with richer ideas faster. In this reading I learned about how to correctly brainstorm and mind map. I needed a refresher on barnstorming because I have not study that since elementary school English class. Before reading this chapter I had never heard about mind mapping. I am excited to try what I learn and work on mind mapping because it looks like it could be an effective way at looking a things differently.

I also think that thinking about using action verbs can really help develop your designs and take them to a whole new level. I am planning on applying the things I have learned to my projects for this class.

  1. Elizabeth, I totally agree! Usually, I am so busy that I forget to brainstorm ideas for my designs. However, in the end, it would have taken less time to finish a project if I would have just started brainstorming at the beginning. I also want to try using the action verbs to help develop my ideas because it seems like a great way to come up with new ideas.

  2. Im surprised on how many posts I have read with people saying that they didn't sketch much or brainstorm before reading the book. Its such an important stage of the process and, for me at least, it's the most fun part of the design process.
