For this project, I really wanted to focus on the notion of dating as a game. I always hear friends talk about "rules" of dating & it seems funny yet pretty accurate to relate dating to a game. I used a medieval kind of theme for no particular reason, I just enjoyed designing in that style at the time.
The composition with the cards is my first version - I had changed the composition completely from the how to get in my pants idea. I'm definitely not in love with the tagline nor am I sure what I want to do with the cards within the composition; I settled on that layout for the final but intend to tweak it to perfection in the future.
The checkers composition needed less alterations than I thought it did. I moved around the checkers a bit but then decided that the original layout was pretty cohesive, thus I modified the type and added texture to give it more visual interest.
The castle composition was the piece that I changed the most from its original version. During the first critique, feedback indicated that the aesthetic did not quite match the message I was going for. I first adjusted the background color to be less happy & much darker, then changed the color of the clouds from fluffy white to gloomy grey. I then provided more context by actually creating the section of the castle & adjusted gradients to achieve the appropriate lighting perspective. After adding a rainy texture & modifying the type the piece came together quite nicely.
