Alexandra Final

For this assignment I created a webpage layout for a clothing company that would sell shirts with breakup slogans. There is a series of eight t-shirt designs that together embody the same satirical tone toward breakups. The messages on the shirts seek to encourage those who are heartbroken to recover quickly by a creating comical perspective of their significant other. After break ups I have often witnessed friends (and even myself) dwelling on the past or the mistakes we've made that lead to the breakup, instead of considering that maybe it's for the best.

The specific subject would be the slogans (text) for each t-shirt design since it embodies the message I want my audience to receive on my perspective on breakups. Generally, when a friend comes to you for advice or a shoulder to cry on after a breakup, you tend to reach to those cheesy "everything will be okay" lines. However, for this project I wanted to create a brand that  embodied the voice of the one that friend who would tell you something funny or bold to cheer you up. The secondary subject is the web layout which I feel adds more dimension to the design as it makes the message of the shirts seem bolder since it creates legitimacy for the brand.

The unifying principles of this geometric design is the consistency of typefaces, font size, the color scheme and picture of the model for each shirt design. I wanted to keep these elements consistent so the viewer can instantly drawn to read the t shirt slogans. This makes the overall design look polished and clean and therefore creates the impression that this could possibly be a real website. It can also be considered a geometric design become there are no overlapping elements and everything is legible.

Exactly a year ago, I was enduring the pain of a heartbreak. As I wandered from friend to friend for support, I kept getting frustrated  by the clique advice and found myself dwelling more on the situation. However, as time passed my friends would crack jokes about my ex (showing me clearly he was not worth wasting my time) and I started to find it amusing till I finally received some closure. Looking back at the aftermath of the breakup I wish I didn't waste so much time grieving. For this assignment I wanted to relate my experience by being that friend that motivates the wounded to MOVE ON. From what I seen so far, no one has touch on the subject of breakups which I think contributes a lot to a person's identity and how they approach perspective mates.  Therefore, I think that my design it a response to my classmate's work because it addresses the possible consequences of being in love in a comical manner. It is also compliments my classmates' work because it geometric, similar to others designs. My inspiration for the t-shirt slogans were my friends, as many of the phrases are lines my friends have actually said to me.

I believe that my design is successful because the design is clean and makes the website page appear modern and trendy. I think that my weakness falls in the typeface choices for some of the t-shirts. I had trouble finding fonts that matched the message of the shirt.
