Elizabeth Jefferson – Artist Lecture Assignment

For the artist lecture assignment I was not able to attend any of the suggested art exhibits because I had night class every Thursday. In order complete this assignment I took a trip the Art and Institute of Chicago. I found this temporary art exhibit in the modern art section of this museum. This exhibit used graphics and text to tell about the history of music.

The exhibit focused mostly on records and news about the past of music. I was able to see a progression of the style of records and packaging labels from the past as I compared it to modern packaging. The design of the records repressed the time period that it came from in a creative way. The colors in the photographs had a lot of contrast and gave the art an old school feeling. The artwork was colorful and eye catching. It had a playful and lively feel to it. The pictures worked well with the words to tell a story.

Overall I as impressed with this exhibit and I learned a lot. I enjoyed viewing the stylized way of the records where packaged. The text was straightforward and gave a clear message. The text communicated the point worked well with the images.
