1 100% Chinese
2 Mainly Taoism & Buddhism - Followed, more so, by my grandparents.
3 Chinese New Years & Mid Autumn Festival (Moon Festival)
As well as all major holidays celebrated through the year.
(New Years, Fourth of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas)
4 I've lived my whole life being so close to my family that these beliefs have just been instilled in me through the years. I do wholeheartedly identify with the beliefs presented in Buddhism, but less so with Taoism.
5 Yes, I've been picked on for my ethnicity; at times it is in a lighthearted and friendly manner, but I've come across moments where individuals simply show disdain towards who I am based on my heritage. My parents have faced the same thing and it's always very implicit, but the feeling of contempt always lingers.
6 I've lived in the United States since the age of 4. I identify myself wholly as an American and live for the culture that Ive grown up with. Though I still have close ties with my ethnic heritage, there is a large disconnect between me as an American and me as a chinese individual.
7 Yes, I have a few other friends who have similar situations and live with this same sort of cultural disconnect.
For this project, I really want to focus on this disconnect. The strong chinese cultural heritage paralleled to my upbringing in the States.
Since I didn't really make use of my deconstructive design for project one, I think I'll focus this project on that format. I'll most likely use an 11 X 17 poster and work with imagery primarily and integrate text minimally..
