For my project I really wanted to relay a different opinion on dating and falling in love. Over the course of my life I have noticed through my experiences and those around me that sometimes relationships are easier when one does not fall in love so quickly. I really wanted to show the different side to love and how unless the relationship is truly meant to last it will inevitably end in heartbreak and disaster. I am not trying to be cynical through my piece, it meant more to be on a lighter side however when I think of dating this has rapidly become one of the first things that I think of. Since I did not want the piece to seem so cynical I incorporated different aspects that would give it a lighter feel such as the cliche heart representing love with stitches over it to resemble a broken heart in the healing process.

For my design I wanted to try my hardest to incorporate the
integrative design structure. I really found a new liking for a humorous
juxtaposition between two objects. The energy that relationship creates is one
unlike most others. The feeling of laughter is untouchable and irreplaceable.
Though with speaking in regards to my piece, it may not make one laugh. But it
does on the other hand make me laugh. And as a designer for once I am truly
happy with my work.
In the design, (right side) my girlfriend Heidi is
reluctantly posed around a video game character (left side), from the newly
released Halo 4. Luckily enough,
Heidi allows this ridiculous habit, and therefore was my entire inspiration to
my design.
Analyzing past integrative designs that we have viewed in
class was the first step to the process. And shortly after a screen shot from
Xbox live, and a picture from Heidi, the pieces finally started to fall
together, after rigorously thinking of what to do! I wanted to focus on something
that I do not usually do when I design, in hopes of thinking outside the box. And
the decision to focus on an integrative design was a rewarding decision for me.
The typeface is modeled after the type Halo has used, since the beginning of their gaming legacy. Which to
me adds a sense of authenticity. Putting the viewer in the digital medium as if
they were playing the game itself, and witnessing Heidi with her arm around a
character as if she actually belonged in the same frame. With all of this being
said; this piece could speak to two separate audiences which themselves are on
opposite ends of their spectrum. One audience is the gamer who knows he or she
must spend time with their significant other. And the other audience is the one
who desires their significant other to take a break from video games. But yet
when both view the piece there is common ground, but of opposite affection.

I took this picture while i was visiting LA, I found this guy to be my type. yet he didnt know me nor i him. I find myself always checking people out creating a false reality, just for entertainment. I also am dead set on moving to west hollywood. So i played off that idea and created this.

For this assignment I created a webpage layout for a clothing company that would sell shirts with breakup slogans. There is a series of eight t-shirt designs that together embody the same satirical tone toward breakups. The messages on the shirts seek to encourage those who are heartbroken to recover quickly by a creating comical perspective of their significant other. After break ups I have often witnessed friends (and even myself) dwelling on the past or the mistakes we've made that lead to the breakup, instead of considering that maybe it's for the best.
The specific subject would be the slogans (text) for each t-shirt design since it embodies the message I want my audience to receive on my perspective on breakups. Generally, when a friend comes to you for advice or a shoulder to cry on after a breakup, you tend to reach to those cheesy "everything will be okay" lines. However, for this project I wanted to create a brand that embodied the voice of the one that friend who would tell you something funny or bold to cheer you up. The secondary subject is the web layout which I feel adds more dimension to the design as it makes the message of the shirts seem bolder since it creates legitimacy for the brand.
The unifying principles of this geometric design is the consistency of typefaces, font size, the color scheme and picture of the model for each shirt design. I wanted to keep these elements consistent so the viewer can instantly drawn to read the t shirt slogans. This makes the overall design look polished and clean and therefore creates the impression that this could possibly be a real website. It can also be considered a geometric design become there are no overlapping elements and everything is legible.
Exactly a year ago, I was enduring the pain of a heartbreak. As I wandered from friend to friend for support, I kept getting frustrated by the clique advice and found myself dwelling more on the situation. However, as time passed my friends would crack jokes about my ex (showing me clearly he was not worth wasting my time) and I started to find it amusing till I finally received some closure. Looking back at the aftermath of the breakup I wish I didn't waste so much time grieving. For this assignment I wanted to relate my experience by being that friend that motivates the wounded to MOVE ON. From what I seen so far, no one has touch on the subject of breakups which I think contributes a lot to a person's identity and how they approach perspective mates. Therefore, I think that my design it a response to my classmate's work because it addresses the possible consequences of being in love in a comical manner. It is also compliments my classmates' work because it geometric, similar to others designs. My inspiration for the t-shirt slogans were my friends, as many of the phrases are lines my friends have actually said to me.
I believe that my design is successful because the design is clean and makes the website page appear modern and trendy. I think that my weakness falls in the typeface choices for some of the t-shirts. I had trouble finding fonts that matched the message of the shirt.

Kadet Final Dating Strategy
Dating Strategy Analysis
For my dating strategy project I made four digital projection pieces describing my dating type. I used quotes directly from my friends about what kind of people I tend to like. I used many of the same elements throughout the pieces. highlighted one item on each piece with an additional shape in the background.
The specific subject is an abstract, navy man with a large, rounded nose. The secondary subject is a teal background shape. In the first one, the secondary subject is the male gender symbol, an arrow pointed to the north-east direction. In the second piece, it is the rounded figure of a man that is shown on bathroom doors to indicate the men’s room. The third is a painted light bulb with streaks surrounding the top and the fourth is two left feet. The secondary subjects add to the compositions. I want the meaning to be reflected again behind the main figure.
The unifying elements are the consistency of color, form, and text. On all pieces, there is the figure with a large nose, some border, a teal secondary background image, centered text and one item highlighted in a lighter blue. The first piece has the same border as the last piece to close the pieces like a book. I would say my pieces are mainly geometric, but pushing deconstructive. They are geometric because of the minimalist elements and the single narrative. The deconstructive aspect comes in due to the overlapping layers and shapes. In the second piece, I included a bunch of colored dots because I thought they were “awkward” and added to the piece. Also on the second piece, I added a funky border that is made up of half circles, straight lines, and outlines. I also colored in the dots and the border with all of the colors used in the piece. The second piece is probably the most deconstructive of the three. In a way, they could also be integrative because I want viewers to stare at the main subject and then go in and out with the background teal subject. My pieces are mainly geometric because of the simplicity and cleanness.
As far as the context of the piece, these show my personality because of the vibe and the quirkiness. I would consider myself awkward and nerdy, two of the main adjectives used in the second and third pieces. The first piece actually even says my name. All of these quotes my best friends actually said about my type. They were side by side with me as I was working on them. My work is similar to my classmates because some pieces use slight variations of colors and some students did multiple pieces as well. I wanted to keep my project simplified with text and an image. My friends are my biggest inspiration for these pieces.
My purpose is to inform people about my dating type. In a way, I want viewers to have a little peak into my dating world. I want them to imagine the type of people I would like based on the inferences from the pieces. For example, someone could think about an awkward boy who has acne on his nose while looking at the second piece because some of the dots are on the tip of the long nose. The shape of the nose may even resemble a penis. I want the viewers to enjoy the pieces and to feel happy and imaginative while viewing them. These pieces were meant to be light and comical.
I would say my final project is successful because of the unity. All of the elements work well together. One strength of the project is the consistency. I like the teal images behind the main subject in all of them. That, the background, and the text are the only elements that change from piece to piece. Other than that, I keep the same color scheme and position. All of the pieces could work on their own, but together they have a larger story. A weakness may be the oversimplification of some elements. A more complex figure may have a bigger impact. Another weakness may be the limited color palette. Maybe the highlighted images (the nose, the bow tie, the glasses, and the eyes) could have been red. Overall, I really enjoyed creating and working on this project. It was a funny way to express something personal about myself. One day I’ll find my awkward nerd!
